The kids, roads closed and loneliness...

Road closed. For the last 24 hours the road between the Big Lew and Pullman has been closed due to drifting snow. Its 40some degrees here in Lewiston and just fine, slight breeze but I guess at the top of the hill its a whole 'nother story. We finally came up with a plan to put them on the bus. But I what if the road closes again and they are stuck on a greyhound. I hope we work something out. I am missing my kids like crazy and ready for them to come home. Their dogs are lonely, I am lonely. Its been long enough. The only good thing about today is that I have dinner plans at a great new restaurant with my hubby and another couple. It will be fun to play grown up's and be out on New Year's. We won't be out late, but it will be fun to have a plan! Take care, be safe and see ya!!!

The day after Christmas

(disclaimer, I love children and husbands and this is meant to be funny, if you don't see the humor forgive me now and don't read)

Malls are funny places, you have junior high kids lurking around to see who is cute, families exchanging this and that and explaining why santa didn't know the proper size, kids being dragged through the aisles of discounted Christmas wrap and ornaments wondering why on earth they are not home with a babysitter and then people like me, on my lunch hour hoping to get in and get out. Now, you are probably asking youself, why on earth I would go to the mall the day after Christmas on my lunch anyway? Well, I work near there and I left my brain at the office, simple answer, right? I needed hairspray and Penney's had a major sale in their salon, then I thought I would hot lap through to see if there was something I couldn't live without. There it was, a rack of leather jackets on a serious sale. I had some Christmas money burning a hole in my new handbag, and thought I would try one on. I however did not want to take on this task in the middle aisle where they were on display so I headed for the dressing room. There blocking the door was a husband, (why on earth do women drag their husbands to the mall, it is so beyond me) She was talking a mile a minute while in the dressing room and loud enough for the whole store to hear, and he was standing in the doorway. I waited for a few mins and she finally came out wearing jeans and a red blouse, he commented how absolutely beautfil she looked, she asked if it made her _________ look..... you know the rest, then she turned a few times and stared at herself in the only full length mirror in the store, I wait some more, she goes on and on about the jeans, she goes back in the dressing room, he walks away talking on his phone and she comes racing out looking for him 'cause she kept talking and he stopped responding, HEAVEN FORBID! She is still blocking the door, I say excuse me, and step inside to try on the coat, she walks in front of me and looks in the mirror again at the red shirt and jeans, by this time I am wondering why she is so concerend, this is obviously not a high end outfit, in fact the shirt and jeans are all sale, it is not wedding attire, a formal event, or even a work outfit, in fact it is just JEANS. I finally resort to trying on the jacket in a dressing room 'cause baby, she isn't moving till he reassures her again she looks great. For the love of GOD! its just jeans. I stand in line forever with small children asking their mom's how much longer and dear old souls trying to find the exit. I purchase my new black leather jacket, some hairspray and am safely back to my car. There ought to be rulles for malls.

No children that are tired or otherwise needing love, attention or toys, leave them home with a babysitter to be spoiled rotten and to enjoy all the toys santa just delivered.
No husbands unless he is buying the clothes, and if that is the case call him from the warmth and comfort of his car as you are checking out.
Free Starbuck's or diet coke for us idiots who think they can get in and out in just one hour after a holiday
Full length mirrors somewhere besides the dressing room
and tons of checkouts girls just waiting with a smile to ask you if you found everything okay.

I am not asking for rocket science here just to be smart and enjoy. I am all about family fun but why torture those you love, I mean really. Unless you are into serious bribing what kid honestly wants to go while you try on clothes, exchange or find a gift for Grandma, and what husband in his right mind will tell you how great you look, all he is thinking about is how great you look without it, really..... okay enough ranting and raving. I do love my jacket and it was worth it all.

Highlights from the last few days

Sunday nite we had girls Bingo at my aunt's, It was a hoot, we won "gas cards" to the local fuel station, what a blessing! (It was great to see Jamie and Julie!)

Christmas eve morning we had a wrapping party at the store, it was so fun to decorate the packages in anticipation of them being opened later that nite. There were last minute folks buying gift certificates as well, so fun to see so many men in our store.

Savannah was a beautiful dancer, it was very moving, a portion of the Nativity movie was in the background, and the song was perfect. The service was filled with carrols, and candlelight.

The evening was filled with family, snacks, lots of lights, a Charger football game and of course GIFTS! I love to see the look on people's faces when they received just what they wanted. I will post pictures later, highlights were a Lisa Bearnson family book for mom and a new cricut cartridge, a down vest for Mike, Savannah's new Ipod, and Ugg boots, Marges' handmade calendar, Jake's $$ and my Adobe Photoshop elements! I waited to open my gifts last, I wanted to really capture the moment with the kids and others.

We ended the evening with a card game and a movie.

Christmas morning the kids were off to Spokane before the snow flew

We had a nice breakfast out and then took a nap with the dogs

We spent the rest of the day with Miss Lil, and Pitch at mom and dads with Marge and Dave and a wonderful Prime Rib dinner. We watched the Guardian (what a GREAT movie) and went to bed early.

Today its trying to snow, and its back to work. I am so thankful for a loving and kind family. A family who is relaxed and enjoys being together. For a store filled with friends and amazingly talented girls. For the magic of the carrols and lights, what a time of year. I hope that someplace in your heart and mind you remembered the baby Jesus as we did. That you were caught up in the love and light of the season and were truly thankful for those around you.

Yes, there were funny times this week too and I hope to have a video soon to show you the cockatoo and the puppy!

Blessings and Happy-day-after-Christmas shopping!

Happy Christmas Eve to you all!

I am sorry I have been MIA this last week. I realized I had some serious creating to do as I was missing some important presents. I have made some really fun letters this week, some great decor boards and more. I got some Christmas cards written but no picture yet. Also Savannah was asked to dance at the Christmas Eve services tonight. I love it when we get to see her using the gifts God has given her. Its a traditional candlelight service with carols. We will be there at 6 & 8 tonight. There will then be a family dinner, some gifts and memories to be made.

A friend leaves....another letter

My letter today is "M" I am going to deviate a bit from the week and focus just on a few words. M = MOURN, today I will attend a service for my friend Cheryl who passed away Friday evening. God was MERCIFUL and she didn't suffer. She was diagnosed w/ a tumor and liver cancer the week of Thanksgiving. A week ago hospice started coming and a hospital bed arrived, she was on comfort meds and joking w/us. We would visit on the phone and she would ask for things that would make her happy, cookies, homemade soups, some comfy shoes, I would organize and deliver but Friday she was tired, sitting next to her daughter and brother she feel asleep and passed to a better place. Now we mourn. She is in heaven with a new body, and probably organizing Karoke and dinners with her family and friends.

Cheryl was a social worker with us. She was one of the good ones. The one who climbed under the bridge to help the homeless man so he didn't freeze, the one who wasn't afraid to tell the drug addict I will help when you are ready to deal. Who could make a few phone calls and have wood delivered, and help the rest of us distinguish between poor parenting and abuse. She was amazing with the mentally ill, and had grace to find the strength in some that many had written off. Her best friend couldn't be contained in just one, it was her granddaughter Holly, and so many more. Jack treated her like she was a precious flower. She took time to teach us the ways of charities, the medical system and those that are getting taken advantage of.... I had so much more to learn.

I was thinking what would I say if I had just one more conversation with her.

We had said our "I love you's" and "Thank you"

I would laugh about whatever was in the paper, we read it together most mornings. I would ask about Holly and their next plans together. I would ask her how to deal with a client, for instance a single dad living in his truck trying to save up enough money to rent a home for him and his daughter. We would talk about clients we helped and those that were doing well. When my times were tough she would listen and tell it to me like it is... that is a true friend. We would sip diet coke, talk about her family and their great adventures, and she would ask about my dogs and their antics. Cheryl was true, she lived an amazing life, I am more than thankful that I had the chance to be called her friend for 4 years. I just wish there were 4 more, for mysake, 'cause I wanted to learn more and grow and be better at who I was, and she took time to do that. Godspeed my Pal, hope there are rivers of Diet coke and endless Karoke w/the angels...

To my Mike.... Happy Anniversary

I had a class tonight at the store, so Mike and I celebrated our Anniversary last nite. 12-12-98 we were married, 5 o'clock in the afternoon, surrounded with friends and family in our home church, River City. I am sure Mike and I would tell very different stories of the day and I won't bore you with the details, but I found a few quotes that make sense for today...

I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance,A church filled with family and friends.I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for,He said one that would make me his wife.~Author Unknown

You don't marry someone you can live with - you marry the person who you cannot live without.-- Author Unknown

Marriage is our last, best chance to grow up.

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.

Happy marriages begin when we marry the ones we love, and they blossom when we love the ones we marry.

"A wedding anniversary is the celebration of love, trust, partnership, tolerance and tenacity. The order varies for any given year."

A successful married life requires falling in love many times, but always with the same person.

Marriage is work, its not easy and if people claim that it is, they are simply telling a story.. Our lives are filled with unexpected twists and turns, and so many blessings, it would take pages to list.

For tonight, I would do it all again, I would stand before God and everyone around us and say "I do, I will and yes... I love you" I would chose Mike and I would hope he would chose me.

I am so glad to have the name Mrs. Ottmar. 9 years and several more to go!

Happy Anniversary my Michael.

Animal kingdom

I just have to share some family pic's of ours... Actually, they are my mom's pets. If you know our family at all, you know that we love pets. We are crazy for them. Mom has 3 birds two dogs and some cats that live outside that adopted her. We will start with photos of Miss Lily Mae. Some of you met her on Friday, she has had her first photoshoot, thanks to Tami Sue. Tomorrow we will add in the birds!

We will something special starting at the store. So check back here tomorrow.

A different quiz....
1.Wrapping paper or gift bags? I like them both really, I like my wrapping to all match but then I run out of steam and bags are so much faster.
2. Real tree or artificial? Artificial, I don’t like the mess of pine needles, I also like that you can store one year after year, we have a pre lit tall skinny one, its perfect for our house.
3. When do you put up the tree? I help my mom put her’s up Thanksgiving weekend but we wait awhile with ours at home. We take all our presents to my folks, less chance of the dogs playing with them, so there isn’t a hurry.
4. When do you take the tree down? Sometime in January. I like to make it last.
5. Do you like eggnog? Sometimes, I like it in coffee if its really cold
6. Favorite gift received as a child? A would say a pony but he was mean, so I will definitely say my breyer horses and stable growing up, I loved to create stories with them
7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, but I have lost it, it was a wedding gift from some friend of ours and its GREAT
8. Hardest person to buy for? Probably my brother, he just likes to buy his own, but he is gracious when I come up with something
9. Easiest person to buy for? Savannah, she likes everything
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I can’t remember. I am not so much into what I get as what I give. I love to find the perfect gift for someone. I really do. I like to shop for hours to get something a person will really really want.
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Both, I would like to hand sign them all but my list is long
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? A Christmas story, who doesn’t love Ralphie?
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? I didn’t know there was a starting or stopping time! AHAHHA! Usually during the Fall but a lot online too
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Only from someone at work to someone’s who secret santa didn’t give her anything. It was in the true spirit of giving.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? My mom’s prime rib and beef log
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear
17. Favorite Christmas song? Right now I like so many, but I think my all time favorite is O Come All Ye Faithful
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? With my family owing businesses we stay home but I prefer to travel, I prefer to make Christmas a trip and less about the stress of the holiday, I like to go skiing, or on a cruise just altogher is what matters most to me.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? of course.....Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph............{you just sang it, didn't you?}
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Star
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? We open from extended family Christmas eve and then immediate family Christmas morning. My dad sets the rules and they have stuck.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Traffic and too many people stressed out
23. What I love most about Christmas? Spending time with friends and family. I love the whole spirit of giving. We have adopted several people to bless this season and its fun seeking out what they would like. It is amazing to go to church and be reminded of the remarkable birth of our savior. I get all caught up in the lights and music, it’s a magical time of year.

Now I am tagging, Gini R, Brenda, Erin in Utah, Amanda, and Michelle A…. (if you don’t have a blog make one… just kidding, send your answers in email. Love you guys!!!)

Being Thankful on Monday

3 Weeks from today and its Christmas eve! What an exciting time. Its so easy to get distracted by the stress that it can be a dreadful time of year. Yesterday in church we discussed sucking it up and enjoying those around us and the time of year. Funny how that nite Mike and I had a spat over what to buy someone and how we were on totally different pages. This morning he was sorry, I was sorry and we can move on. Thankfully it only stole one nite of our lives, stress is our enemy. Hop on my Thankful train and enjoy this time..... what are you thankful for this season?

1- Arriving safely to work, there were silly silly kids spinning out in the 4-wheel drive trucks as me and my minivan arrived safely to work with all our snow.
2- A sold out B-E-L-I-E-V-E class and a waiting list, we love that people have fun taking our classes
3- Lily the new puppy, there is nothing like puppy kisses, and the look in their eye when you walk in the room
4- 20 Christmas cards completed, fun fun!
5- A husband who jumped out of bed ready to go to work today! a big improvement from a few months ago
6- Christmas songs on my radio
7- The dogs playing in the snow, its fun to watch them go nutso!
8- of course DIET COKE! (are you seeing trend here? )

Introducing.....

You have to meet the newest member of our extended family. This is Lily Mae. She is an 11 week old Boston Terrier. She is the Queens Christmas present. My brother has a pair of Boston's Scoobie and Daphne and mom and dad have really loved those little dogs. This puppy was meant to be, she was purchased by a family in Lewiston and quickly it became apparent that the dad and daughter were very allergic. While mom and dad while shopping in Seattle Lily made her entrance. I am sure she will make frequent appearances at the stores so stop by and meet her next week.

What do you want for Christmas?

If you are like me, a few times a day you are thinking about Christmas. We get caught up in the lights and music... but also in what are we going to buy for who. This is tricky for me. I have an amazing family, small, loving, kind and caring, but impossible to buy for. I have one brother and he brought this cool girl Kari into our lives a few years ago,but they live in Minnesots, (don't ask me why, I am sure there are no good reasons. HA) but they don't have children, just a couple of great dogs, so they are accostomed to purchasing what they want when they want it. Thats not a bad thing, but they if its a need, they are able to acquire things. My folks are at that place where if they want something they too get it. Then there are my children, 15 and 16 fun ages but also can be difficult to not just buy more gadgets or electronics or clothes... Being a somewhat creative person I love to make things and have a list of items I think would make great gifts, but is anyone else going to think so? I just don't know.

We have secret santas at work and its fun to see what is being left on people's desks. So far I have rec'd a tin of amazing homemade brownies, a mug and a little snowman light. I have given a pail all blinged out with candy, and a primitive wood sign. Its been fun thinking of what someone would really enjoy. I think I am more about the hunt and the gift then anything. I love the packaging and really searching for something special. Its not about cost or keeping things fair its about that person and what makes them tick.

I would like nothing more than to give these gifts to those that I love:

-A pain free day for my mom, relaxing, no headache and no pain
-A time where dad just sits and enjoys not worrying that his heart is goin to give out
-A day for Mike where his mind can rest and not have to calculate, and think, compare or worry
-A fun, whimsy time for Savannah full of books and people who are big thinkers who want to talk and think and breathe, and dance and sing
-A day of understanding for Jacob of why people do the things they do and how things work
-More creative time for Cori and Tami, Kristi W and Erin, where their kids and hubbys are content so that they can create care and stress free
-A time of no worry for Becky and no lists
-for Jamie, fun times with her kids and once again with Blitz one last time
-A long family dinner for Jay and Kari about dreams and ambitions
-Land for my church to build a bigger building and enough seats
-a healed free body for Cindy Holben and her family, with no more cancer
-a cancer free liver for Cheryl N
-and for me, peace and rest to enjoy this full and great life that I live. A day to just be ME

my list looks more like this:
socks for jake
jeans for mike
books for Savannah
fun homemade gifts for mom and the girls
and so on....

how do I make the first list more real?

Life as it is.. just isn't working

While I was drinking my morning diet coke and reading blogs, I was referred to Motivated Moms, they have some great ideas to keep us on track and focused on what's important. I am really struggling in this area. Thought I would pass on the good news and organization. I hope it will help me get on track and focused on the filling in the pie rather than all that is on the outside.

Being Thankful

Today is tough for me. I had bad dreams last nite that won't stop.... my husband didn't have a 5 star weekend and neither did my kids. BUT the bible commands us to be GRATEFUL... so I guess I am stepping out on a limb

-I am thankful for amazing girls who choose to hang out at our store and for a fun photo weekend
-I am thankful for cars that are reliable and for jobs that provide money and insurance
-I am thankful for a Father who doesn't give up on me when I whine and stomp my feet in frustration.
-I am thankful for Dayna's new puppy, and Kim's new puppy, for Kelly and her dogs too, you can't help but smile when holding a puppy.
-I am thankful that my daughter dances and uses the talents God has given her
-I am thankful for heat to keep the home warm, Christmas lights, and Christmas music
-I am thankful for Tami who spent her weekend taking photos and then editing them for our customers.... she amazes and blesses me
-I am thankful for Jami who just stops by the store to say hi and hang out when I need a friend
-and as always for the diet coke on my desk. :)

Family photos without the stress!

Last year we were fortunate to have family pictures taken with our dogs. We have an amazing photographer, Ang Movius who came to our house. Most of us don't plan ahead or can't fathom standing in line at Wal Mart for hours on end to have a photo taken. We have set up a mini photo studio for the weekend. You can come tonight from 4-7 or Sunday and have pictures taken. We have created affordable packages for you and your family. Call for more details!

No Snow and fun fun in the store

I am loving this week. The weatherman keeps telling us that its going to snow. I mean snow. They keep telling us on the news that there is a 80-90-100% chance of snow. But this morning, no snow! Don't get me wrong, I like the look of snow, I like to see it on the mountains, but I don't like to drive in it or walk in it. I hate having my shoes be wet. Another wake-up and no snow. Woohoo! Yesterday it was 50 degrees when I went to lunch, now that is a perfect day.

Tonight I am making the cutest banner for my Just Add Wine Class. You are going to love it! It is N-O-E-L I was inspired by Stephanie I will upload a picture later of mine. I used Heidi Grace paper and it turned out fun. I think the girls tonight will love it!

If you are looking for a fun calendar to make Debbie K and Kristi W both have samples on display! We had a great Christmas card class Monday. My Believe class is coming soon, December 10th, the sample will go up this weekend. Sign up early there are limited seats!

MUSIC TO MY EARS

It's official, we have CHRISTMAS MUSIC PLAYING!
I love it!
It makes me smile

Do you have a favorite Christmas carol? Do you have a favorite childhood memory of singing either carolling with friends or just singing around the piano. I remember my 5th grade Christmas concert, I loved every song and probably could sing them still today!

I think I am going to make a layout about Christmas carols, how about you?

Those I love and miss

We had a working lunch today at my office. While we were eating we went around and shared our favorite Thanksgiving dish. There was lots of fun answers, I think that Stuffing was a clear front runner. I really thought and thought about it. I loved my grandma's rolls, we fought over them when she was alive and none of us know how to make them. I like mashed potato's probably 'cause we don't really ever have them and my mom makes great potato's. I really like that we sit around and visit. My dad is a great story teller.

I will admit that I miss some faces around our table.

My brother and sister in law aren't coming home this year, they will stay in the twin cities and celebrate with family there. My aunt flew to Palm Springs to get warm in the sun with some good friends.

But also missing is my Grandma Madora, my uncle Roger and my other grandparents the Freeberg's. I truly miss my Grandma Do, she was my best friend, in fact my folks live in her home. Its hard not having her here. But she is with us, I can still hear her voice in the kitchen, see her apron, and smell the rolls. My dad's brother Roger passed away very unexpectedly last October. He was a character. Told GREAT stories and really completed my dad's life. He was only in our family for a few years but it was fantastic times. I think his wife and kids have a pretty big hole in their hearts around the holidays. The Freebergs were my adopted grandparents. They were an amazing couple, I was married on the day they celebrated their 60th wedding Anniversary. They truly were in love. She tended to him like no other. She was famous for baking amazing pies and cookies. She was all of 5 foot tall but she ran a tight home. I loved to sit and visit with her. They both passed away to a better place a few years ago and I am sure are loving dinners together in heaven.

I have a full and rich life, So much to be thankful for. I love the times to remember and Thank God. I hope you will do the same. PS we have several empty chairs around our table if you'd like to share a meal, just call or stop by. There is always room!

Being Thankful

Last week I took a break from my Monday Being Thankful Blogging and I missed it. I think its good to be reminded of what really matters..... or in my mind the "good"
-a dog who cuddled up in bed with me this morning 'cause he was cold
-a mom who is making Thanksgiving dinner even though she is tired, hurting and doesn't want too
-a husband who went to work even when his whole being told him not too, he went and then thanked me for sticking with him
-a really fun class I took with Tami yesterday that got me in the mood for the holidays, Thanks Tami for sharing your gifts, talents and friendship.
-Wendy E for coming to our crop and being herself, we love ya girl!!
-Savannah for taking a chance to talking to her bio mom again even if it is uncomfortable
-I survived Wal Mart last nite (not my favorite place)
-friends who call just to check in
-diet coke (this I will always include 'cause its my "comfort food"
-a dad who was willing to listen early this morning and talk about his business, and who was willing to change..... I hope I can continue to learn from him

what are you thankful for? I am going to do some Thankful pages this week, in fact, let's have a contest. Bring in your Thankful page to the store, get a photo copy and Sunday we will draw for a gift! How about a Scenic Route gift... sound fun???

Just sharing some fun....

Jamie made a darling page of her kids. I am thankful I have friends that scrapbook, its just means more time we can spend together.

A Darling Christmas paint can made by my mom!

I made some calendar pages... I have wanted to documents our crazy lives for a long time. So this week we made pages to remember the fun we had and all that we did.

Upcoming projects and classes

Scrapbook weekend

I had the chance to escape for the weekend and spend time at a lake house with some friends. We took tons of scrapbooking items, set up a table and just had fun! Erica flew in from California and Jamie joined me from Lewiston. They made really fun pages and I altered some letters. I encourage you if you need to get energized and regroup, get away with some girls and be creative. If you have too many home commitments and too many jobs, then take a nite and come and work at the store. Friday nite from 5-11 for just $5 you can enjoy some peace and quiet and make some fun projects. Erin and Kristi W are hosting a work time aka CROP at the store. Your family will love what you make and you will love getting out of the house. (Thanks Jamie and Erica for letting me channel surf to my hearts content and especially thanks for the laughs and love)
The Thanksgiving block class tomorrow nite is sold out! But watch the December calendar for the "Believe" Block class. Just ADD Wine is Wednesday and the layouts are GREAT! Can you even believe Thanksgiving is next week? I woke up this morning and panic set in. I have a lot to do. Tami and Cori worked this weekend setting up projects in the store and a motivation station. You have to stop by~

Tami and Cori are hosting their ever popular CROP this Sunday at the store, these girls make some amazing projects. You should stop by 10-4 Sunday.

Mark your calendars next Friday nite the 16th, Erin and Kristi W are hosting their first ever FANTASTIC FRIDAY CROP NITE!!! Kristi W is working on a calendar, Erin has a darling GRATITUDE Book. You should definitely hang out with these girls for an evening!!

DOGGY PEDICURE

Last nite while working the phone rang and it was Mike asking for my mom. I know it must be something with one of the dogs. Later I arrived home to find Duke, our oldest boxer nursing a torn toenail. He somehow tore it almost in half near the quick. It was bleeding a little and he was limping. I cleaned it and dressed, then got some water. When I returned he not only had the dressing remove but he was eating the dressing, tape and all. Dang Dog!!!

He slept near my pillow last nite as he was hurting, (yeah right) and so there are little trails of his blood here and there. I knew we needed to do something, so I made him a vet appt for this afternoon. I took my lunch from 3-4pm and off to the Vet we went. He was so good. He greated everyone on the waiting room like they were all there to see him. He weighs 84 lbs, geesh! The vet is GREAT. She hugged and kissed on him and he played shake to show her his broken nail. Then she kept loving on him and while he wasn't looking she clipped off the nail. It worked, he just yiped a bit, but then he wagged his tail. I paid the bill and Duke went back home after his pedicure. Of course he didn't choose a color because he just simply couldn't decide. HAHAHAAA Thankfully, it wasn't costly and he is doing great!

Sunday and time

I love the time change. Okay let's be more specific. I love the FALL time change. Knowing that when the bedroom clock said 7:10am it was only 6:10am now that's a gift! I didn't have a great Saturday, it was very melancoly but today was better. The sun was shining, we took our Boxer dog Buster to play at our friend Kim's house with her new puppy Dixie and they had a blast. Mike had I enjoyed a relaxing lunch and now I am at my favorite place, THE STORE. I like working Sundays. I seem to get a lot accomplished. Tonight I am hoping when I return home the laundry genie will have been there, if not I have exciting plans watching Amazing Race and doing laundry. Do you like the time change?

PRACTICE WHAT I PREACH

I have learned a hard lesson this week. Due to some power issues with our circut breaker box we killed our computer at the store. I know, its not pretty. BUT...... there were pictures stored on that computer. Oh my gosh... now what?????? I am trying fast and furious to recover those photos with our computer tech Kevin, I am praying to GOD they are still alive.

I tell people all the time we scrapbook to preserve the moments in our lives, be smart, upload your photos to a website like Costco, or Snapfish and get a CD when you get prints, that way if you computer burned up, dies or gets stolen you still have those glimpses in your life you can't replicate. I didn't do it. I do upload often, so there are probably a couple hundred photos sitting there on the desktop.... I know Kevin will be able to help me but in the meantime I am back on the bandwagon.

GET YOUR PHOTOS off your camera.
Upload them to an offsite website
Print out your photos, and get a CD

DO IT NOW! Don't gamble and lose like me.

NEW EYE CANDY! (mommy kind)

I know I know, two posts in one day, but I had to tell you.

We received Scenic Route ROXBURY today.

This is such a fun line you are going to love it! I had to tell

you now 'cause its going to go FAST...

GOT CANDY?

What are you plans today? My day started off with a mini snickers for breakfast, that can be kind of scary. I am not a sugar fien, I am more of a baked good girl, but how can one resist on a day like today. Near my office there is a church hosting "Trick or Trunk" now how fun is that, all the members park their cars trunks in and open them up, they have buckets of candy ready for the taking. Its a one stop shop so to speak.

I hope you see our store as a one stop shop. Tonight we will be handing out candy from 4-6pm. We would love to see your ghost, goblin or princess. We have so much new product you'll want to hurry back. This weekend if you have had enough of the "haulingthekidsaroundforsugar" and you are on the downside, Debbie is hosting a PJ party Friday nite. 5-11pm, and if you were your pj's you get double punches, not a bad deal!

I am going to have a few more treats today then make sure that they hid the basket. My candy choices today are going to be the Queen & Co self adhesive felt, the new fabric ric rac from MayaRoad, and the journaling cards from Cosmo Cricket. Now that's what I call CANDY!

More random unexpectedness

First a dog bite, some stitches and now today... surgery... this morning we awoke and Mike's hand was red with some white striping, and twice the size of his other hand...

We went to the ER, they sent us immediately to the Ortho surgery center, and they immediately sent us back to Tri State for surgery. As Dr. Boyea told me "i am going to filet his wrist and debride it" I immediately thought of salmon, when he said "filet" Not a great picture. I am now home... Mike is resting, with a huge cast, and a drain.... he will be in the hospital till Saturday receiving antibiotic treatments.

How was your Thursday?

The unexpected

My morning started off so normal, arrived at work a little late and signed onto my computer, then the phone rang, it was Mike (not unusual) He exclaims "Wilson (the neighbors dog) was in our backyard, the boys (our dogs) were a little too worried," so in an attempt to grab Wilson, fight breaks out, Mike reaches in to break it up and CHOMP, there is a hand bite. The neighbor was home, got her dog safely to his kennel, our dogs back in the house and off to Tri State ER Mike goes. I met him there. They have him in x-ray and his hand looks so twisted and swollen, we all assumed it was broke. I am quickly thinking, great, another hospital stay while they do surgery. The wounds aren't that bad, but the bones are blue already. 3 x-ray's later and some scrubbing, (oowwwee) Its not broke! (Thank GOD) But it was stitched both inside and out and dressed and casted. Mike was a trooper. He is home resting and will be fine. The dogs are so concerned its sweet.

How is your Tuesday?

Being Thankful on Monday

I am going with being Thankful again today even when its difficult.
Mike had a rough weekend so I am spent....
BUT there is so much good in my life too.
1- I made 6 layouts this weekend, it was so fun being creative
2- Kristi W spent the afternoon in the store with me brainstorming ideas and classes, her attitude really inspired me, I was talking so fast I was mixing up my words
3- My folks are having a GREAT time on the Oregon Coast
4- We took the dogs for a ride in the car this morning, what a site! Two huge boxers hanging their heads out the window, ears flapping in the wind....
5- I have a great job where I help people, although sometimes it doesn't seem that way, I am really blessed. (If you've ever seen Dirty Jobs, mine makes me look like royalty)
6- Rebecca is working at the store today, I am thankful I have friends who help us out when we need it and whom I can completely trust to do it right. Thanks Becks.
7- I have life group tonight at the King's its a safe place to be ourselves and be loved
8- We have a friend named Lori and she had twins that delivered early recently and they were able to come home healthy from the hospital. What a miracle.
9- My housekeeper comes today. Anyday she comes is GOOD.
10- My friend Jean is trying to go back to work today after the death of her sister, its a blessing she has a GREAT job and so many friends, I'm praying for her and so thankful for her friendship. Love you Jean.

What about you? Are you thankful in the hard times? Sometimes you have to search to find, but the Good is always there.

a fun list...

13 Things <--- inspired by Shawna S
The Lucky 13 Things You Need to Know About Me
1. Scrapbooking rules are made to be broken..I don't follow them anyway. Heck, I pretty much break all rules in life. I'm dangerous. I'm a rebel.
2. I am doer, I hate indecision, let's just DO IT!
3. Creating is my relaxation.
4. I love Target. Sometimes I wonder if they would notice if I just moved in.
5. I am a night owl. Sleeping in is next to Godliness in my book
6. I would say I'm fairly organized, I am a list maker... but my lists pile up next to the mail and boxes and opps.
7. Joy is an Iced cold Diet Coke
8. I love fall. I love long warm days and crisp cool evenings
9. Family is everything to me. My husband and kids can drive me up the wall, but I would be lost without them.
10. Color rocks. I love color so much every room of my house has a touch of something bold, Red kitchen, Dark grape bedroom, green and blue stripes downstairs... makes it hard for resale but it makes me smile all the more.
11. Sweet tea, puppies, long lunches, afternoon naps, Heidi Grace paper, 7 gypiseis rub-ons, my daughter dancing or playing the piano and Baked apple pie candles make me weak in the knees.
12. Music feeds my soul, Hillsong, Linclon Brewster, and Rascal Flatts are my current faves.
13. Most importantly I love me some Jesus, and I don't mind saying so!

lists, planning and trips.....

I am a list maker and a planner. I know that if there is something (like a carrot or for me a diet coke) I am more apt to do it! I like to have something to look forward too, it makes the mundane days of work go faster and rough patches a little easier to swallow....

I have planned a "Desperate Housewives" getaway weekend, some of you just laughed 'cause I am so not a stay at home mom/housewife, Martha and I have nothing in common, but my posse aka girlfriends are mostly all SAHM's and we are escaping! We have rented a cabin in Cd'alene for a long weekend and we are going to stay in our jammies, scrapbook, someone is going to cook, or we hope so and we are just to relax, no children, no hubby's little to no stress, doesn't it sound divine? Knowing this event is just a few weeks away, I have been able to deal with juggling 4 people's schedules, mike going back to work part time, changes at the store and the arrival of a ton of freight, class schedules, doctor's appts and on and on.

My folks are going to Hawaii for 2 weeks in February. In fact my whole family is going but my immediate household. They are miffed that we aren't going.. but let me show you my list of reasons why we aren't going. Its fairly straightforward..

1- $$$$$$$$$$$

2- one full time job for me

3- $$$$$$$$$$

4- a Store that oh yeah I OWN

5- $$$$$$$$$$

6- Two kids that go to high school, they can't miss 2 weeks of school

7- $$$$$$$$$$

8- a husband who will be working full time (notice how I spoke that out confidently)

9-$$$$$$$$$$

10- 3 boxers and a little princess named Sister

11-$$$$$$$$$

get the point? They have rented 2 homes so our housing would be covered but airfare would be about 2000.00 and then food and play for even a week would be at least another 2000. Do these people know how music paper and fun for the store 2000k will buy? Ha they are so dillusional.

Needless to say, I have the ache to go, go, go

So yes, I am planning a scrapbook cruise, its going to happen, there are several choices running around in my mind, I think we will tag onto someone elses event and it will be a long weekend one rather than a full week, but in '08 watch out, we might just have to go on Teresa Collins 8 day one to the Caribbean. OH YEAH!!!!

So if you are remotely considering going w/ us on the cruise in April, here is your list...

1- you need a passport and thanks to Osa whoever.. they are taking forever so you need to apply now..... of if you are like me and mine expires soon, get the darn thing renewed.

2- put your 25.00 this week in your cruise fund, jar, under the mattress, whatever it takes. our deposits aren't due for awhile but heck, saving now will make going later all the more fun!!

3- if you work, get the time off. We will be leaving on the evening of April 10th (after 5pm)

and returning late late on the 14th. This is fun because it means you only have to take 2 days off of work. nice, huh?

Mercies that are new everyday

I was really blessed today by Lisa Bearnson's blog, you have to read it... it was a gentle reminder today of all the ways God takes care of us. They had some amazing instances where lives were spared and God took care of their family.

I know that there are times in my life I see God's hand perfectly clear and other times it takes me a little longer. This week my folks are travelling and its always really hard on me. But there is peace in the journey.

Many of you know what our family has been through the last 6 months, today was a big day, Mike worked 7 hours today in our family business. Jacob's kidney's checked out fine and Savannah had a great time at dance and church tonight. These are huge accomplishments for us from just a few weeks ago. Those are my mercies. They truly are gifts from above.

On a lighter note, you have to see the new Christmas embellishments we just rec'd. OH MY! We received Me and My Big Ideas Christmas glitter stickers, and Jolee's dimensionals that are so darling you won't want to miss it..... I love that Christmas is arriving everyday!

Something to talk about.....

I found this over at Homegrown Hospitality...... TWO for Tuesday
Today is Tuesday....and if you saved $2.22 a day ( that is one large diet coked with extra ice with 29 cents change) per day for the next 205 days....well then you could afford to go on a cruise with me, and my pals...and the peeps from Timeless Treasures... what do you all think about this? cindy and I were just talking about how fun this would be... forget the Palouse Divide lodge.... what about we all go on a CRUISE?

Monday morning...

I don't think I like Monday's. I don't like having to wake up and get ready, I would prefer to get up when I am good and ready, I don't like that it means we will be busy and hurrying from place to place, I don't like that it means that I will be working all day without time for "relationship" so I thought I would start a new blog tradition, I would start being Thankful on Monday's.

I was lying in bed last nite trying to fall asleep, tossing and turning and already anxious about Monday morning, when I realized a few things.

I am thankful for...
- a husband who snores 'cause it means he is home, safe and peacefully sleeping, not alone in a hospital or up 'cause he has anxiety
- a son who was excited to go to school when he went to bed because his kidneys are healing and he no longer feels so crummy
-a warm bed with dogs snuggled all around me instead of all alone in a foreign town
-a daughter who was content to watch Law & Order reruns with me all evening and one who is not out till all hours of the nite with God knows who.
-a husband who woke us all up to go to church together, instead of a husband who doesn't know God.

Just a few things that keep Monday's in perspective. How about you?

Seasons change

I love FALL. I love the cool evenings and warm afternoons. I was looking out my window today at work and noticed several leaves have already fallen, I can honestly say that although Christmas product is arriving daily into the store, I am no where nearly ready for Winter. I want Fall to last longer. I want to go to the pumpkin patch and hang some corn stalks by the front door. I want to smell fresh baked pumpkin pie and think twice each month before I leave if I need a coat or not. I enjoy Friday nite Football, and pink sunsets, I like that I don't have to scrap my windows yet and wish for short sleeves on the drive home. I hope you are liking the season change.

With a new Season also comes new events. The store has received our Fall papers, ribbons and flowers, we have Football, and soccer papers and there are hints of the upcoming holidays laying around. Our calendar is full of Christmas ideas, calendars, cards and layouts. I hope you will stop by soon to see the colors and the change. Soon you will hear Christmas carols and wish for a turtleneck with mittens, but not just yet!

Too Cute bags and fun friend JAMIE P

The last few days I have visited many doctors offices from Spokane to Moscow to even Kamiah, and people all the time are asking me about my handbags. Its great that we have a friend, Jamie P who has "Designs by Jamie" She makes these darling bags. I thought I would show you one of her recent creations I borrowed from her website. Check her out! She has GREAT parties where you get to select your own fabric and then she will deliver to you an amazing bag in a few weeks. We love Jamie!
I have to admit I am hooked on these bags, I have 5 or 6 now and think I need a new one real soon but I am waiting awhile since Savannah needs glasses, why on earth should a mother be forced to choose, "Glasses for her child or a new bag" I will get back to you with my final decision.. :)
