Dogwood Festival, Fair, RiverRun what else?

What a weekend, I can't imagine what else could be scheduled or stuffed into these few short days. There is a fun Fair down the road in Asotin, the Art under the Elms on the LC Campus, the Seaport river run this morning between the bridges. Since I feel like my time is all "chomped" away I thought it was good to introduce a fun new tool from We R Memory Keepers. This is the Chomper. What a fun way to corner chipboard, wood and metal. You have to come and see this!

FFA and the Fair

You don't hear many kids that want to grow up and be a farmer anymore. If you don't grow up raising wheat, cattle or the like you probably never would think about FFA. But the reality is that many "city kids" are in FFA, its an amazing leadership organization that teaches so much more than farming. It teaches you to be a better steward of what God has given us and where we live, to speak clearly and to be understood. I travelled the world when I was in FFA and am a much richer person in my character due to my time under Mr Smith and his leadership. If you have a chance to go see the fair this weekend watch the FFA kids prepare their lambs or steers for the showring. There is a lot of pride and time in that experience.

My thoughts on cell phones etc....

Thanks for your comments on phone etiquette I love how each has their own way of talking, etc.... I find it very interesting the comments from those in the "service industry" that I have encountered. Like the customer service rep at Staples, she had no clue what I had going on in my life and if my phone call was emergent or not she just assumed that talking on the phone was rude. Or the McDonald's drive thru person who was offended I didn't set my phone down to hand them my 1.50 for my diet coke. Are these people in "service positions" or am I there to serve them....

My daughter and I vary greatly on our opinions about cell phones, she would rather no one have them at all, she prefers the pioneer days of hand written letters and conversations on the porch with a cup of tea and a pal...

I on the other hand learned long ago that if I was going to juggle my life of two jobs, two kids, a wife, daughter and friend I was going to need to maximize my time. Sure I schedule in down time where there is no technology and I am known to unplug from time to time, but overall my life doesn't allow for me to put down the phone to check out. Now... before you get your hackle up... Yes the person in front of my deserves respect and I try to be nice as much as possible. BUT I will tell you this, I feel horribly guilty when I don't look someone in the eye and say hello, or mean it when I ask a stranger how they are doing.. I really do care... BUT I will also be the first to tell you that I don't always have that in my reserves. There were times this year when I didn't want to leave my room or that house for that matter and driving thru was because my daughter had to eat, on the chance a doctor or a caregiver for my husband called I was not going to hang up while we drove thru McD*nalds. I didn't want to put down the phone when a good friend and I finally could connect while running thru the supermarket. I talked quietly but connecting with the checkout person is not part of the transaction. But maintaining a much needed relationship with my pal James was......

I will use more caution when in public places but you are darn tootin' I am going to be hooked up to my cell phone either by text, voice or email when I need to be. I pay a pretty penny to have that ability and a checker, customer service rep or other can be grateful, I didn't bother them with my questions or sometimes bad attitude.... ha!

to answer or not... to hang up the phone.. or not

I took a class for work last week on customer service and one interesting conversation ensued... We were talking about using cell phones while shopping, driving thru a restaurant, etc. People have serious opinions about that.... In fact several found that it was really rude to talk on the phone in a store or basically anywhere in public. I as curious... if I am driving thru to get a diet coke do I need to stop talking on the phone to pay my 1.50 and then get my soda, or if the phone rings, its your child's school do you pick it up when you are checking out or wait and call them back? I was in an office supply store checking out, my phone rang and I chose not to answer it, the clerk thanked me commenting it was rude to have answered.

I am so curious what you all think.. please chime,. I will comment tomorrow nite.

interesting notes

Here are some very recent statistics that I think you will find both interesting and promising:
*In the last quarter, McDonald's sales were up 8% (comfort food)
*Movie ticket sales are up 17%
*Video games sales are up 12.5%
*MAC cosmetics/lipstick sales are up by double digits (make up allows women to feel prettier instantly)
We all know that the act of scrapbooking provides the scrapper with a real sense of accomplishment and inspiration. The completion of a scrapbook page makes a scrapper "FLAT feel good". Our industry's products remain very affordable, relative to housing, cars and furniture

What do you think? I find that we are getting back to basics and crafting is on the rise. We are noticing more and more new customers and we hope you are noticing that our shelves are stocked and filled with fun ideas.
